Téa Mottolese, Audio Engineer
Praised for her commitment to music and scholarship, Téa Mottolese is a young, versatile audio engineer based in the greater Boston area. With just under a decade of experience in the industry, she has worked in a variety of audio fields including broadcast, concert, studio, and location recording, spanning genres from classical to jazz, pop, rock, and hip hop. Her extensive repertoire and experience has helped her to develop a sense for nurturing different genres with the appropriate techniques, which in turn compelled her to find a niche in the grey area between the artistic and the technical. This niche, combined with insatiable curiosity, bold commitment to integrity, and utmost respect for the visions of her clients, sets her apart from other engineers of her generation, matching the more traditional techniques, sound, and artistic approach of the former generation’s masters. Téa’s methods were developed through guidance from mentors such as Tim Martyn, Nick Squire, Antonio Oliart Ros, Carl Talbot, Rick Jacobsohn, Douglas McKinnie, Josh Rogosin, Chris Nelson, Kevin Wait, Ed Tetreault, Scott Metcalfe, and Sean Wendell.
Téa developed her interest in audio in the winter of 2013, while serving as first chair for the classical saxophone quartet of the Brett L. Wery project compositional premiere. It was during the project’s recording sessions that she realized she was sitting on the wrong side of the glass window and asked to study with the staff engineer. With her sight keenly set upon a career in the recording industry, she attended audio seminars at local studios, assisted local engineers, and completed an audio engineering capstone project before enrolling in the Peabody Institute in fall 2016. Téa completed her Bachelor of Music in Classical Saxophone Performance in May 2020. In addition, she completed her Bachelor of Music in Recording Arts and Sciences, as well as her Master of Arts in Acoustics in May 2021. Her final year of study was completed on a full scholarship, named for audio engineer Mary Lea Simpson and awarded to Téa by the Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation for her outstanding academic and recording achievements. Téa strives to honor the memory of Ms. Simpson throughout her career.
